As a Liberal I’ve always had what I call a Healthy Distrust of Big Government and Centralize Power. Liberals tend to be Anti Establishment and its hard to get more Establishment. Then Centralize Power, not that I’m Anti Federal Government. I just want them to stick to their Constitutional Powers. Which is what Limited Government is about and leave the rest up to the people. And the States, I just want the Federal Government to be dealing with the things. That they are only qualified to do or do better then the States and Private Sector. And I define those areas in relating to National Security, Foreign Policy, Law Enforcement and Regulation. Let Free Adults live their own lives, as long as they are not hurting others with what they are doing. And let the States handle their own affairs, as long as they don’t violate their own Constitution. Or the US Constitution, which is the key in preventing them. From doing things they shouldn’t be doing.
The question for Libertarians and Liberals has been how best to guarantee Individual Liberty. Some have argued through a Republic but there are Authoritarian Republics. Cuba just ninety miles South of Florida perfect example of that. Others have argued that a Constitution Republic is the best way. But again there are Constitutional Republics with Authoritarian Governments. Egypt being a perfect example of that. The best way to guarantee Individual Liberty, is through a Constitutional Republic. In the form of a Liberal Democracy, where the right and powers. Between the Feds, States and people are clearly define. Which is basically what the United States is and always has been. At least for most of its people and we are now enforcing those Constitutional Rights for most of the country now.
Libertarians shouldn’t fear Decentralize Power, as long as there’s a Constitution. That protects the rights of the Feds, States and individuals.
