I would call Senator Paul’s step a step a baby step even but none of the less a positive step in the right direction. A first down even if you want to use a sports analogy that is he would leave drug-laws up to the states and let them deal with it. My approach would be different in that, I would end this so-called War on Drugs in America all together. And replace it with a narcotics-policy that’s not longer about criminalization but decriminalization and legalization. At least as it relates to marijuana. But go further in this sense that I would stop arresting people for possessing illegal-narcotics. The idea that people could end up doing 3-5 years in prison if not longer for simply possessing marijuana even. A drug that has similar side effects as alcohol, is appalling to me especially as someone who has to help pay for the incarceration of. The person convicted of possessing or under the influence of marijuana.
So what we need to do is stop arresting people for simply being in possession of marijuana but even cocaine, heroin and meth. And stop invading people’s homes because law enforcement believes that someone or a group of people may be in possession of narcotics. And have a sane practical approach that gets addicts into drug-rehab at their expense with no criminal-record upon successfully. Completing drug-rehab, as well as let states figure out for themselves what’s the best approach when it comes to narcotics. And stop arresting people for what they do to themselves and worry instead about how people deal with each other. And we would end up with a much safer country with more people in prison who should be there because they are real criminals. And more productive people in the free-world where they should be. As well as saying billions of dollars every year fighting a bogus war that was lost a long time ago.
So my approach would be first to legalize marijuana all together at the Federal level. And regulate and tax it like alcohol in this country and decriminalize heroin, cocaine and meth in the short. Term so no longer simply sending people to jail who are caught in possession of these narcotics. And no longer invading people’s homes for suspicion of possession of these narcotics. And we would have a much more productive country with more productive people in the street and more real. Criminals in prison where they should be.
