Callous cuts to the poor – latimes.com.

I do not mind paying to help people in poverty get by while they are in poverty either through tax dollars or charitable giving. Just as long as that money is used to help them while they are in poverty but also help them get out of poverty. Hell I do not even mind increasing funds on public assistance short-term in the United States. Whether it’s Food Assistance or other programs as long as that money is used not only to help these people survive in the. Short-term but also to help them get out of poverty. You want to decrease the amount of people who are on public assistance and decrease public assistance spending in America. The best and most cost-effective way to do that is to have fewer people in poverty. And more Americans able to take care of themselves through legal means. Meaning not having to look to crime in order to support themselves after their public assistance checks just ran out. After the Federal Government or a state just cut them off to cut the deficit. So that’s how I look at poverty assistance in America that it should be for yes of course helping people survive in the. Short-term but also helping them move on with their lives so they can take care of themselves and live in freedom.

So with this background I’m in favor of policies that todays so-called Progressives would call callous or mean-spirited. Which is how they described Welfare to Work in the mid 1990s because it required people on Welfare Insurance to look for work and go back to work and finish their. Education that the humane approach according to so-called Progressives would be to increase their public assistance checks. And not expect them to do anything but survive while on public assistance and become more dependent on public assistance. But what I’m actually in favor of is telling people and let’s use Food Assistance as an example. That yes we as tax payers will help you be able to feed yourself and your families in the short-term. But that this is a contract that people on Food Assistance have to sign and full fill to continue to receive. Their Food Assistance that what they have to do in return is to improve themselves. So they can get a good job or a better job so they no longer need Food Assistance and we’ll even. Help pay for you to be able to continue and finish your education so you can get a good job.

This is what I would call round three of Welfare reform. The first one being the original program that helped people survive so they didn’t starve or have to become criminals in order. To survive and round two from 1996 Welfare to Work empowering people on Welfare Insurance to go to work. And be able to take care of themselves and this is round three. Public assistance to work for anyone whose mentally and physically capable of working full-time. To be able to do that and take care of themselves and their families and no longer need any form of. Public assistance in order to support themselves and their families.
